Engineering Manager, Data Platform
Normalmente respondemos en un plazo de una semana
Hello! We’re Cashea 👋, and we’re on a mission to give Venezuelans back the opportunity to access credit through a BNPL business model. Since our launch in 2022, we’ve been dedicated to promoting financial inclusion. Today we have more than 9 million active users, both consumers and merchants, and we’ve become a trusted brand in Venezuela, winning hearts and minds 💛.
About the role
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Data Platform team, the people who build and operate the data backbone that millions of users depend on every day. It’s a team of 6 engineers, and your core job is to lead the team, develop the engineers on it, and make the platform more capable.
This is a people and strategy leadership role. The job is to set direction with enough technical fluency to earn the team’s trust: own the roadmap, prioritize across ingestion, transformation, data quality, and reliability, and turn business needs into a platform people rely on. Day-to-day DAG writing belongs to the team. We run a GCP estate built on a medallion architecture (Landing → Bronze → Silver → Gold), orchestrated with Airflow on Cloud Composer, transformed with dbt on BigQuery, ingested via Datastream CDC, and quality-checked with Dataplex, serving several internal domains. Beyond your team, you’ll be the bridge to the product squads that consume the layers your team governs, and a steady advocate for data quality across Cashea. The managers who grow fastest here invest in their people and leave the team and the platform stronger than they found them.
Overall you will…
Lead, coach, and grow a team of ~6 data and platform engineers, owning hiring, onboarding, career growth, and performance.
Define and drive the Data Platform roadmap, balancing new capabilities against reliability and data-quality work, all tied to real business needs.
Champion a strong data culture across Cashea, raising the bar on data quality, governance, documentation, and modeling practices well beyond your own team.
Partner with product squads as the bridge for our Airflow Asset-based data contracts and the workspace ownership model (ws_<squad>).
Own the health, reliability, and cost of the platform across Cloud Composer (Airflow), BigQuery, dbt, Datastream, and Dataplex, setting SLAs and standards for the team to build against.
Set technical direction over the medallion architecture, the replication factory that generates pipelines, data-quality gates, and the evolution toward per-source datasets.
Establish operational excellence: observability, alerting and escalation, incident response, and reducing toil through automation and CI/CD.
Manage stakeholders and communicate the roadmap, trade-offs, and progress clearly to leadership and to the squads.
Drive data governance, security, and PII handling appropriate to a regulated fintech.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
3+ years building data platforms or pipelines as an engineer, plus proven experience leading or managing engineers (formal people management or a strong tech-lead-of-team track record).
Hands-on depth with Google Cloud Platform (GCP): Cloud Composer, BigQuery, Datastream, Dataplex, and Cloud Storage.
Familiarity with medallion or lakehouse architectures and CDC-based ingestion.
Solid understanding of the modern data stack: data warehousing (BigQuery or equivalent), orchestration (Airflow/Composer or similar), and transformation (dbt or similar).
Proven experience owning a data roadmap and delivering against business priorities.
A track record of growing and developing engineers through hiring, mentoring, and performance management.
Strong stakeholder management and communication, comfortable being the bridge between platform and product teams.
Solid grounding in data quality, governance, and reliability practices.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking, with pragmatic technical judgment and genuine curiosity about new technology.
Desirable skills
Working knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or OpenTofu) and CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar).
Experience building in fintech, payments, or credit, where data correctness matters.
Experience scaling a small data team and establishing a data culture from early stages.
Spanish and English proficiency.
